To provide a healing, healthy center of creative arts. To be your home away from home. A safe place to land after a rough day. A place where you can have fun, learn new skills, be with people who share your passion but most importantly, a place to not only make memories but to preserve those memories.
WHO WE ARE
Tee Angel is Hearts n Crafts. Tee, owner, left corporate business to follow her passion—to run a scrapbook/craft store. She started as a volunteer—after being diagnosed with severe depression and PTSD, she looked for a place to immerse herself, a safe place, a place where she could have fun and do good at the same time. Hearts n Crafts Etc., under the then owners, was the soft place she found. Marylin kept tabs on her when she didn’t show up, and slow healing began. From a volunteer position to ownership took a few years, and now, Tee is Hearts n Crafts Etc. (Her third year anniversary was July 1st, 2016) She’s dedicated her time, talent and treasure to keeping the store open, for herself as well as for her ever-growing family of scrapbookers and paper crafters. Since Tee has used crafting as therapy, she wants to provide others with the same healing place that she has found in the store.
Supported by her husband, Robert (Bob), her sister Lisa Rivera (often the voice you hear greeting you as you step inside) and a host of customers, pseudo family and volunteers, Tee vowed to bring the joy of paper creation to her corner of the world.
WHAT TO EXPECT
When you come into the store, you’ll see whoever greets you (almost every customer is greeted each time she walks in), displays, ongoing projects underway, a volunteer or two, and usually, a lot more.
You’ll find information on the ATC exchange night (which is limited to 12, and is currently full, BUT if we get enough interest, we’ll be delighted to start a new group). 10 bucks gets you snackage, a hands on demo, and a list of themes for the group. Debbie Fabanish leads the current group.
You might see info on upcoming Shop Hops or conventions (find out where you can see Tee at the Anaheim or Ontario Scrapbook Expo Convention sites), or info on the next Yard Sale.
You might see a group gathered around the tables in the front room, working on make n takes, exchanging tips and stories. You might get distracted by the class and workshop display table, enticing you to sign up for a class or two. You might find a cut paper project you just can’t do without—and if you do, just ask. Hearts n Crafts Etc is overflowing with opportunities to learn.
You might find a crop going on. Some are free, (come in anytime on a Thursday and join us! You get a half table, but be aware, this is a first-come-first-served basis! Crop begins at 10:00 am, when the shop opens) We have 15 tables set up in the back, which means room for 30 crafters. If more scrappers come in, we can move tables from the front (if they aren’t being used for other workshops and classes).
Some crops are fee-based, and some are private, but often, the back room (3rd room) is full of crafters learning, sharing, laughing. If not a crop, a workshop just might be in progress. (check the calendar)
HOW WE PAY IT FORWARD
There’s always a jar on the checkout desk with a note asking for help to feed families. These proceeds go to various needy family, which Tee finds through the community or referral. She vows to feed 20 families each major holiday, (for some, she does the cooking) provide gifts for every child at Christmas, and a basket to every child at Easter.
Other projects give support to a local women’s shelter, House of Ruth, and others.
A new venture is to donate items to the Pasadena Alzheimer’s Center , where they hold an annual Scrap Memories. The families are given supplies to create several pages with the Alzheimer’s patients. (This is a particular passion for Tee and Robert.)
